AND finally, I like to keep you on your toes. Don't worry, all my previous post have joined me in this new medium.
Thats it and keep smiling. I hope you enjoy the new blog, it is currently still in the making, so there a few missing links to be added. See you there on the flip side.

World War Z
Dear everyone and everything i dragi moj,
For the last long and tiring days I have been reading the following book. In total it took me 12 hours because of the interruptions in between.
Things that struck me about this book, apart from being about zombies, it had details about life in general that struck chords.
I think what makes the story successful, are the details of the stories despite ending with the sound of the the song "I was only nineteen" an type on anthem in Australia sung by Red Gum about the Vietnam War. I found this rather incongruous.
Fulda was mentioned. It was mentioned in terms of an American soldier stationed there. The All Blacks are mentioned when the author is interviewing a South African. The German psych of guilt was also included. I think this story would not have been believable without these realistic anchors, considering it was about zombies.
Yes, I was glued to every page and I dreamt about zombies. Not in any nightmarish fever, but of the Japanese kid who was addicted to his computer and Internet realms that when finally all the people online had been consumed by the zombies and his parents stopped delivering his daily meals did he finally come out of his bedroom.
So that is me today. I am enjoying my time off.
Peace out and when you are attacked by a zombie, smash its brain.
Becky.

Depths of irony
Dear everyone and everything,
Whilst out in Leichhardt this morning, I came across the following sign. I think it qualifies for my collection of ironic signage. The proceeding signs are the collection so far. I thought the culmination of signs might make the comedy of them be more evident.
Graffiti.
The discrimination of football.
I have been known to confuse my
pet iguana with a game of golf.
This one just left me speechless.
?
At a restaurant.

I guess the reason I called this entry depths of irony is because the twist on reality is that these signs are needed.
Peace out and keep smiling. Smiling is a infectious and a good infection to have.

P.S On a completely different topic, I am finally reading a book I have chosen for myself, "World War Z: An oral history of the zombie wars." It is a stark contrast to uni texts compassing political arguments and medical research. This is not philosophy or a biography (rather more like a survival guide written, framed as a series of interviewees explaining their story in an interview). Just how I like it. Lately, I have been unable to focus long enough to read for pleasure. I have been reading too much for uni and taking advice on what someone else thought was good a read. (Also, soon I think I will be wearing glasses full time - boohoo! Yes being a nerd does ruin your eyes in a repetitive strain injury kind of way).
To me, what one person reads and finds something that shifts an internal paradigm, another finds weak, pathetic and boring. Its truely something personal. It can be insulting/hurtful/embarrassing if another does not agree. Reading is a very intimate experience. You bring your own experiences and interpretations along with the characters. The story plays in your head. When I was younger, the thought of sharing the experience (ie the book) was akin to sharing my super secret sexy underpants (or my diary...as a 1o year old I had no super secret sexy underpants...). I did not share my books. Once read they became my stories. I also did not want to read books my sisters read; I felt it was stepping into their minds, and I found that intrusive and a bizarre idea. (However a notable exception was Harry Potter, I almost stole that book off my sister). - Ok Peace!
*I am not starting a debate about the rules of the use of the word "football" and soccer. As this photo was taken in the USA, I am referring to what the Europeans call football. But for the "ex-colonies" of the old "Motherland England", football is a generic word that is used to encompass different games using a ball (be it spherical or oblong shaped) and the foot.
- The street I walked through was painted in street art and this was scarred by ugly tagging.
- People did play soccer* on the rugby dedicated field (there were other fields dedicated to soccer, American football etc). It is funny to see soccer as a game being problematic rather than the spectators that go.
- Well people did walk their dog on this oval, and well no one likes dog poo nor standing on a rogue golf ball. It strange how these ideas are combined.
- The sign advertising for groupies left me speechless. I can't articulate well enough to explain why I thought this was funny. But the sad thing is, that this sign was for real.
- Watch out for drunks. A sign at a university. No use denying that there is a drinking problem at the school.
- It is true that you can get bad food poisoning if your waiter does not wash their hands after going to the toilet. Its sad to remind people of the need for personal hygiene.
Peace out and keep smiling. Smiling is a infectious and a good infection to have.

The last 100 meters is the worst
Dear everyone and everything,
I am in the last week of studying, and I can feel myself giving up. I am tired and just want it over with, no matter what the mark. Which sucks because I know that if I work hard, I will do well. The problem, I lack the energy to want to work hard.
My schedule: Monday, work. Tuesday study all day, exam at 6. Wednesday travel to a have discussions with a wayward pharmacy (its part of my job). Thursday study all day, and then have the exam on Thursday evening. Thursday evening PARTY or pass out in exhaustion. Friday sit in a comfy chair and sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!!!!!!! Then its the weekend! I plan to shave my legs then. Yay! (A day off and I plan to sleep. I am so sad...but I am very very tired. I am stomping around like Grumpy the Dwarf.)
Here is the joke for the day (thank you stats teachers!!!)
How many statisticians does it take to change a lightbulb?
Peace out and love your work. Talk to you soon and all that blah blah...hehe.
Keep smiling.
Becky

PHINALY!!!
Dear everyone and everything,
Last night I am in an insomnia spell at the moment I was kept awake by thinking of the new name I would call my next computer. Currently Queen Chaos rules the realm here. Previously it was just Chaos. I have a USB stick called Chaos Mini and a mass storage device called Chaos Jr. You can see why I was kept awake. I am running out of Chaos names. (It was not inspired by the Cafe Chaos in Fulda, I already called my first Mac Chaos before leaving Australia for the USA.)
The thing is, I do not have a new computer! This new realisation/revelation will keep me awake tonight.
So, moving right along, I AM DONE with one subject! One systematic review on malaria morbidity and zinc supplementation down and............................two to go! Two subjects that is.
Ok I sound like I am excited about the paper I wrote, but in reality, I still wish I had more time to polish it...you know how my spelling is. With this thing being rather scientifically technical, sentences get rather cumbersome and clunky in their reading rhythm. To give you a perspective of it, it was way harder than my research project in Fulda. I had to use more computer programmes to make calculations on sample size, power, relative risks, confidence ratios AND heterogeneity. Yes I agree, that is a big word for this time of the day...ok its big for any time of the day.
Here is a taste of what was in there,"in children under 15 years, does zinc supplementation compared to placebo, reduce malaria attributed febrile episodes". This is a PICO formed question, (Population, Intervention, Comparator and Outcome).
I would also like to announce I am obsessed with my cluster map. I miss the old dots, but seeing new ones pop up is rather exciting. Another thing to announce, I am liking the move more and more everyday. I may have sold my TV (I don't watch it really - yes really. I think I will have no TV when I am an adult) AND... there is a piano player next door, who is actually pleasant to listen to. It's not a new student practising scales. The songs are simple and the sound is delicious. I am glad it's not bagpipes. (Yes, Dad, if you do get to read my blog because it is restricted in Vietnam...I do remember you playing the bagpipes in Lilydale, and yes I do realise they are difficult to play.)
Ok, hope everyone is feeling groovy,
Peace
